Castle views in Columbia

OK, so technically I have stepped foot in South America. For one day. In 1995. Still counts as a visit to the continent, but as you’ll see from the content of this post, I clearly have to go back – at a minimum to rectify my seriously questionable fashion choices, take some higher quality pictures, and see many, many more fabulous sights.

My one day in South America to date was a shore excursion during a cruise – to Cartagena, Columbia. We got to see the Castillo San Felipe de Barajas and explore a bit of the city. (Yes, that’s what I was wearing!)

And apparently hold a sloth?

This memory still stands out in my mind many years later – not exactly the type of security I’d been exposed to back in the suburbs of the US in 1995.

I clearly need to make South America a priority on a future trip. As hubby suggested, maybe Argentina so we can hit Antarctica, too??

I've always loved to travel - cherishing that feeling of the world seeming both bigger and smaller after each trip. Now I'm finally realizing my goal of starting a travel blog to share my experiences - check back often as I work on writing up trips from years past!

‘Travel is fatal to prejudice, bigotry, and narrow-mindedness, and many of our people need it sorely on these accounts.’ – Mark Twain
